Spy Hunter Classic High Score Player Paul Dean Speaking Out
A classic gaming rivalry has been smoldering since May 5, 2003 when Mark Little, of
Doylestown, Pennsylvania, broke the world record on the classic arcade video game
Spy Hunter with a 832,620 to become the first gamer in more than 20 years to beat an
American Guinness Book World Record of the vintage '80s spy hunter arcade game. Except
he didn't beat Paul Dean's Vintage Era spy hunter high score. As a matter of a fact,
he only got 8% of Paul Dean's 1985 High score of 9,512,590; yet Mark Little was made
a hero and Paul Dean's score was deleted from the Twin Galaxies Scoreboard.
A new complaint between Paul Dean, spy hunter champion and the scoreboard of
Twin Galaxies has evolved into a significant exchange on how referee's are
treating classic era gamers and their high scores. Link
A Gaming initiative needs to be set fourth that all scores must go through an
executive board with at least eight members included so that no individual
bias can be put out on the referee's part.
Paul Dean, Classic Era Spy Hunter Champion to break one million points
Paul Dean will be coming to the forthcoming California Extreme Tournament to show
his skills against any and all current era spy hunter players to see if they can hold
their own against Paul Dean, Classic Era Champion of Spy Hunter.
I challenge anybody to break a million -- And I will do it right in front of you
at California Extreme on August 6-7, 2005!
Paul Dean says, "Nobody has ever gotten over a million except me, and that was
20 years ago.

Paul Dean to Come out of Retirement
for one last play of Spy Hunter
Paul Dean will come out of retirement for one last Spy Hunter Game after 20 years
of being away from gaming and extensive injuries in order to beat Mark Little's
Spy Hunter score of 832,620 points.

Here is your big chance to see me play spy hunter, or even play against me. I am
showing up at California Extreme to beat Mark Little's High score.
I haven't seen the game in over 20 years and I can still beat the best current
modern era high score players.
Mark Little's performance lasted almost 90 minutes and beat his
previous verified personal best by almost 400K. Link

Roy Shildt to break one million points
Roy Shildt, Missile Command Champion, is Coming out of Retirement!
Roy Shildt will be coming out of retirement to get over one million on Missile Command
at California Extreme on August 6, 2005. This has not been done in the United
States in the last 20 years.

Modern Era Donkey Kong Champion
Steve Wiebe to break one million points
Steve Wiebe will be going for the first ever public one million point game
on Donkey Kong. He has already done this at home but will now do it for
the public to see at California Extreme on August 6, 2005.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there you have it, a triple hitter for one million points per game
to be done on August 6, 2005 at California Extreme, San Jose, California.
This has never been attempted before. Two players coming out of retirement
to get one million points which only they have performed, Paul Dean - Spy Hunter
and Roy Shildt - Missile Command, after 20 years of retirement, to prove they
can beat all of the Current era players of today's age and Steve Wiebe - Donkey
Kong Champion to be the first to make one million points publicly.
Paul Dean's Comments on a replay of spy hunter after 20 years of hiatus and injury:
The Spy Hunter Controversy Part A: Link Part B: Link
I have a spy hunter on loan for one week in which is real beat up but I have oiled
it and managed to get the pods set correctly and adjusted the monitor but the screen
is going bad so that is a bit of a problem. I have started some limited practice sessions
but am not close to what I used to be with hand eye coordination so it will take
some time.
My goal is to get to a million point game without to much sciatica pain from my
previous disabling injuries from a fall in 2001.
The million point mark beats the second place world record score of Mark Little
and it shows the one million mark for the first time ever at a large public
event so it would be quite impressive to do it while the referees are there
and can watch it happen.
I still don't know what will happen given that I haven't played more than a few
times so far in more than 20 years. But I am competitive, so here we go!
My right leg is affected by sciatica when I sit to long or stretch to much,
so I am surprised that I am doing half hour sessions without to much pain as
long as I rest between sessions.
I have decided to go to California Extreme in San Jose California this August 6th
and 7th, 2005, and meet Walter Day, Twin Galaxies referee and try to play
spy hunter at that event. He may not show up because this event is back
to back with the CGEUK Event in London England.
I am not up to my old skill level but would like to give it a go any way.

It's like the 1980's all over again with all the old retro games, except that we are
all a bit older this time, with jobs to boot.
The retro scene is a new thing here in the states. It seems to be picking up steam.
Home owners are collecting games for their game rooms causing the prices of old games
like pacman and galaga to be very expensive. Pinball's are also very collectible and now
very expensive to buy.
Pinball has also become a big deal with competitions. The Papa Pinball contest has
$10,000 in cash money for the winner and $2,500.00 for second place.

What is California Extreme?
California Extreme is the "Classic Arcade Games Show". In a nutshell, it's an
annual celebration of coin operated pinball machines, video games and other
novelties you once found in game arcades. It's two days that celebrate this
exceptional entertainment medium, featuring tournaments, speakers, parts vendors,
and an opportunity to play games you may have not seen for years. All the games on
display are set for free play, so leave your quarters in the ash tray in your car.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Perry Rodgers - Galaxian Champion / Mark Alpiger - Crystal Castle Champion
I might even see Perry Rodgers, a past Galaxian Champion who was beat by a man
from England by the name of Gary Whelan, and I might see Mark Alpiger, a past
Crystal Castles Champion who was beat by Frank Saey. If they show up at
California Extreme next week, I am sure to meet them.
A lot of classic era player's show up for this event and it should be quite interesting.
They do make a claim of over 400 games including 100 pinballs.
Jim belsito, an all time great pinball champion will be attending this event.
He flies all over the country winning prize money on his pinball skills. Pretty good
to be paid for your hobby!
----------------------------------
Performance is based on many Factors:
The performance issue is based on alot of outside factors you cannot control.
You have press and outside noises as well as a game that isn't exactly like your own,
and who knows how well the other games have been shopped out. There is also the age
of the game. Some are really on there last leg because of years of abuse. Lastly,
you have luck, sometimes it is with you and sometimes not.
My nerve condition continues to improve at its own rate and hopefully one day
this will all be behind me.
Thanks again!
